Sokoto State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has adopted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its sole presidential candidate ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for Monday.

The announcement was made on Sunday during a press briefing at the ADC secretariat in Sokoto by Muktari Magori, former Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

Magori said the decision followed extensive consultations among party leaders and stakeholders across the state as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

“The essence of this press conference is to officially announce the consensus reached by members and stakeholders of the ADC in Sokoto State to adopt His Excellency, former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Wazirin Adamawa, as the party’s sole presidential candidate ahead of the primaries,” he said.

According to him, the endorsement reflects the confidence party members have in Atiku’s political experience, leadership capacity and national appeal.

“After extensive consultations, we are convinced that Atiku Abubakar possesses the experience, national reach and leadership qualities needed to provide direction for the country and lead the ADC to victory in 2027,” Magori stated.

Atiku, a former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), remains one of Nigeria’s leading opposition figures, having contested for the presidency several times.

The endorsement by the Sokoto ADC comes amid ongoing political realignments and coalition efforts among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ADC is expected to conduct its presidential primaries on Monday as the party moves to finalise its preparations for the next electoral cycle.
