Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, on Tuesday appeared for the prosecution in the ongoing criminal defamation trial of Omoyele Sowore before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Sowore is standing trial over alleged defamatory comments about President Bola Tinubu, with the charges filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) following remarks he made on social media.
During the proceedings, the prosecution urged the court to direct Sowore to open his defence to the allegations. The court subsequently adjourned the matter for the continuation of the trial.
Speaking after the hearing, Sowore’s brother, Olayemi Sowore, maintained that the facts presented before the court were truthful. He said the Attorney-General’s personal appearance underscored the Federal Government’s interest in the case, adding that public officials should remember that political office is temporary and that justice must ultimately prevail.
