The newly elected Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Rivers State Branch, Prof. Annabel Ureh Oparaodu, has paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Prof. Chizindu A. Alikor, expressing appreciation for his leadership and support.
The visit, which took place on Tuesday at the hospital in Port Harcourt, was aimed at thanking the RSUTH management for its encouragement and reaffirming the association’s commitment to working closely with the institution to advance healthcare delivery and the medical profession in Rivers State.
During the meeting, Prof. Alikor congratulated Oparaodu on her election, describing her victory as well-deserved and a reflection of the confidence reposed in her by members of the association.
He commended her competence, leadership qualities and active engagement within the medical community, urging her to build on the achievements of previous administrations while fostering unity among members of the association.
The CMD specifically acknowledged the contributions of the immediate past NMA Rivers leadership under Dr Diamond Tamunokoro, who now serves as the National Secretary-General of the Nigerian Medical Association, and encouraged the new chairman to sustain the progress recorded while promoting inclusiveness in her administration.
Prof. Alikor also assured the new NMA chairman of his continued support, expressing confidence in her ability to provide purposeful leadership and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the medical profession in the state.
He further prayed for the success of her tenure and urged her to remain committed to initiatives that would strengthen healthcare services and professional development.
Responding, Prof. Oparaodu pledged to lead the association with a progressive vision centred on collaboration, innovation and inclusiveness.
She reaffirmed her commitment to working closely with the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital and other stakeholders to advance the objectives of the association and improve healthcare delivery across the state.
The newly elected chairman also promised to introduce fresh initiatives that would promote the welfare of medical practitioners, strengthen professional engagement and consolidate the achievements of previous administrations.
