The Federal Road Safety Corps has secured the conviction of a motorist involved in the abduction and assault of one of its officers during a patrol operation in Abuja.

According to the Corps, the incident occurred on April 30, 2026, along the Kubwa Expressway during a special patrol operation conducted by personnel of its Dutse Alhaji Unit Command.

Officials said the suspect, driving a Toyota Hilux, allegedly resisted lawful traffic enforcement, leading to a violent confrontation in which an FRSC marshal was assaulted and briefly abducted while on duty.

The situation was later brought under control following the intervention of patrol officers and attached police personnel, after which the suspect was taken into custody at the FCDA Police Station in Kubwa and the vehicle was impounded.

Following prosecution, the offender was arraigned before a competent court and found guilty. The court ordered a fine of ₦72,000 or a three-month jail term, and additionally awarded ₦50,000 compensation to the assaulted officer.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the patrol team for their professionalism and restraint, describing attacks on enforcement officers as a serious threat to public safety and the rule of law.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to enforcing traffic regulations while urging motorists to comply with lawful directives and avoid confrontations with security personnel.

The Corps also stressed that it will continue working with relevant security agencies and the judiciary to ensure offenders who assault or obstruct officers are prosecuted in line with the law.
