Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi, has banned all forms of sign-out and marker celebrations by graduating students, citing concerns over security, discipline and the institution’s reputation.
The directive, contained in a circular signed by the Registrar, Aminu Alkali, followed what the university described as an unhealthy trend during sign-out activities, including writing on clothing, defacing personal appearances and other forms of celebrations considered inconsistent with the institution’s moral, cultural and security values.
The university said that while it recognises the excitement of completing academic programmes, it remains committed to preserving the dignity, decorum and core values of the institution.
According to the circular, such celebrations encourage disorderly conduct, pose security risks, undermine the university’s image and contradict the moral and cultural standards upheld by both the institution and society.
ADSU directed all graduating students to refrain from marker and sign-out celebrations, urging them to mark the completion of their studies in a responsible and dignified manner that reflects discipline, respect and the university’s values.
The management also directed security personnel and relevant university authorities to ensure strict compliance with the directive, warning that any student found violating the ban will face disciplinary action in accordance with the university’s rules and regulations.
