An Ado Ekiti Magistrate Court has reportedly remanded an African Democratic Congress (ADC) House of Assembly candidate, Ayodele Babatola, over allegations of rape.

Babatola, who is the ADC candidate for Ado Constituency I in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, was arrested following a complaint by a 30-year-old woman who accused him of forcefully having sexual intercourse with her at a hotel in Ado Ekiti on May 24, 2026.

According to reports, the Ekiti State Police Command confirmed the development, stating that the complainant alleged she sustained injuries during the incident. The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.

Police authorities reportedly said the suspect claimed he became angry after the woman demanded payment before intercourse and denied fully penetrating her.

However, the police said a medical examination allegedly confirmed penetration, leading to his arraignment and remand pending further court proceedings.

Meanwhile, some members of the ADC have protested the arrest, describing the allegations and prosecution as politically motivated.

An ADC chieftain, Gboyega Aribisogan, reportedly alleged that Babatola had been repeatedly targeted because of his criticism of the Ekiti State Government.

As of press time, the court had not fixed a date for further hearing on the matter.
