Fresh concerns have emerged among federal workers over the continued delay in the payment of outstanding wage awards, with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, military, Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), federal tertiary institutions and other establishments reportedly still awaiting payment.
The development has generated growing frustration among affected workers, particularly as employees in some Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have reportedly received one month of the outstanding wage award while awaiting payment of the remaining balance.
Workers in the affected institutions questioned the disparity in the payment process, saying there should be a uniform arrangement to ensure that all eligible federal employees receive the approved wage award without unnecessary delays.

Some affected personnel said they had expected the commencement of payments across all MDAs to be followed by prompt settlement of the outstanding balance, but the continued delay has left many workers uncertain about when their payments would be processed.
The situation is particularly concerning for personnel in security and other essential services who continue to perform their duties while waiting for the financial relief promised by the Federal Government.
Workers are therefore calling on the relevant government authorities responsible for processing and disbursing the funds to clarify the reasons for the delay and provide a definite timeline for payment.
They also urged the authorities to ensure that personnel who have not received any tranche are treated equally with workers in MDAs where payments have already commenced.
The wage award was introduced as part of the Federal Government’s measures to cushion the impact of rising living costs and economic hardship on workers. However, delays in its implementation have continued to generate concerns among federal employees.
The latest development is also coming amid broader demands by federal workers for the settlement of other outstanding financial obligations, including peculiar allowances, promotion arrears and other earned entitlements.

Affected workers are appealing to the Federal Government to urgently resolve the payment disparities and ensure that all outstanding wage award obligations are cleared.
They said workers should not have to depend on individual payment schedules across MDAs for a benefit approved for eligible federal employees, urging the government to provide transparency and consistency in the disbursement process.
