Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca has expressed confidence in the club following a reported ruling by an independent commission finding the Premier League champions guilty of more than 100 breaches of financial regulations.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, the Italian manager defended the club and maintained that he trusted its leadership despite the controversy surrounding its financial dealings.

“I completely trust the club,” Maresca said.

The reported ruling followed an investigation into Manchester City’s financial activities between 2009 and 2018, during which the club faced allegations of breaching several Premier League financial regulations.

According to the reported findings, the commission concluded that City had entered into questionable commercial arrangements with certain partners to inflate revenue and reduce reported costs.

Manchester City has consistently denied wrongdoing and is reportedly challenging the decision through an appeal.

Maresca, who succeeded Pep Guardiola as head coach in June, also rejected suggestions that the controversy had undermined the legitimacy of the club’s previous achievements.

Asked whether Manchester City’s Premier League titles had been tainted by the financial allegations, he responded: “Absolutely not.”

The case has attracted considerable attention because of the potential implications for the club’s reputation and its achievements during the period under investigation.

However, the reported findings remain subject to the outcome of the appeal, and any final consequences would depend on the applicable disciplinary and appeals procedures.

Maresca’s remarks underline his public support for Manchester City as the club continues to contest the allegations against it.
