The Nigerian Army has confirmed that normalcy has been restored in Danare community, Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, following a brief incursion by Cameroonian troops into Nigerian territory.

According to the Army, the situation was swiftly brought under control after Nigerian soldiers stationed at a Forward Operating Base in Danare responded to reports of foreign military presence in the area.

The Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, disclosed this in a statement issued in Enugu on Thursday, noting that timely intervention prevented the incident from escalating into a larger conflict.

He explained that upon receiving intelligence about the presence of Cameroonian soldiers in the community, Nigerian troops immediately engaged diplomatic and military communication channels with their counterparts in Cameroon.

The engagement reportedly led to the withdrawal of the Cameroonian troops from Nigerian territory in line with established border security and cooperation protocols between both countries.

Preliminary findings by the military indicated that the incident was linked to a dispute over the collection of levies on farmland situated along the boundary between Danare community in Nigeria and Dadi community in Cameroon.

The Army stated that, in line with ongoing bilateral cooperation and confidence-building measures, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division has directed the Commander of 13 Brigade to meet with his Cameroonian counterpart to address the matter and strengthen coordination along the border.

The planned meeting is expected to clarify operational procedures, improve communication between both forces, and prevent future misunderstandings in the border area.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to defending the country’s territorial integrity while ensuring the safety and stability of communities within its areas of responsibility.

Lt. Col. Ayeni assured residents that peace has returned to the affected community, adding that troops remain on alert and continue to monitor developments along the Nigeria–Cameroon border.

He also urged residents to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and avoid spreading unverified information that could heighten tension in the area.
