A member of the United Kingdom government, Alex Davies-Jones, has resigned from her ministerial post and called on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to set out a clear timetable for his departure, following what she described as “catastrophic” electoral setbacks for the Labour Party.
Davies-Jones stepped down from her role as Minister for Victims and Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls, saying her time in office had been “the honour of my life,” but insisting that urgent political change was now necessary.

In her resignation letter, she praised reforms achieved during her tenure but stressed that the government needed to adopt “bold, radical action” in response to recent electoral losses across Wales and other parts of the United Kingdom.
“The scale of the electoral defeats has been catastrophic. The country has spoken, and we must listen,” she wrote, adding that she felt she had “no choice” but to resign.
The former minister also directly urged Starmer to consider stepping aside in the national interest, calling for clarity over leadership succession.
“I implore you to act in the country’s interest and set out a timetable for your departure,” she stated.
Despite her criticism, Davies-Jones described the Prime Minister as “a good and honest man,” but argued that the party required a reset to regain public confidence.
Her resignation comes at a politically sensitive moment for the Labour government, which has faced mounting scrutiny following recent poor electoral performances and growing internal divisions.
Political observers say the development reflects increasing pressure within the party’s leadership ranks, as senior figures respond to voter dissatisfaction and calls for strategic renewal ahead of future elections.

Davies-Jones concluded her resignation message with the Welsh word “Ymlaen,” meaning “Forward,” signalling a call for change within both the party and national leadership direction.
