A US military helicopter went down near the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, though President Donald Trump moved quickly to reassure the public that both pilots escaped unharmed.
“The pilots are fine, yeah. Nobody injured,” Trump told reporters before departing New York, where he had attended Game Three of the NBA Finals. He added that a full report on the incident would be released the following day but declined to elaborate on the cause.

The circumstances surrounding the Apache helicopter’s loss remain unclear. It has not been established whether the aircraft was shot down, suffered mechanical failure, or encountered another problem, according to people briefed on the matter.
The incident comes as the Iran-United States-Israel conflict stretches past three months, with the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz through which a significant share of the world’s oil supply passes sitting at the heart of regional tensions.
Despite the scare, Trump offered a note of cautious optimism on the broader conflict, telling reporters that negotiators were in the “final throes” of talks aimed at securing a peace deal. His comments followed a pause in fresh hostilities between Iran and Israel, which had threatened to escalate the months-long war further.

No group has claimed responsibility for the helicopter incident, and the Pentagon has yet to issue an official statement.
