President Bola Tinubu on Friday held a closed-door meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and some lawmakers at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting, which was not on the President’s official schedule, took place shortly after the lawmakers joined him for Jummah prayers at the State House mosque.

Speaker Abbas was seen arriving at the Villa alongside other legislators, including the Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Usman Kumo, who represents Akko Federal Constituency of Gombe State.

Details of the meeting were not disclosed, as officials who confirmed the development said they were not privy to the discussions.

The meeting comes barely 48 hours after President Tinubu held a similar closed-door session with the leadership of the Senate led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

It also follows the President’s meeting with governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he reaffirmed their authority over the conduct of party primaries in their states.

The development is taking place amid heightened political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the APC having fixed May 15, 2026, for House of Representatives primaries.

Observers say the President’s recent engagements with lawmakers and governors may be connected to ongoing party alignments and candidate selection processes, although no official link has been confirmed.
