President Bola Tinubu has dismissed concerns about his health, declaring that he is “healthy, sound, and ready to go” following his return to Nigeria after a working vacation in Europe.
Tinubu spoke with journalists on Tuesday evening after arriving in Lagos from Paris, France, where he spent the latter part of his vacation.
Responding to questions about concerns raised over his health during his stay abroad, the President said there was nothing wrong with him.
“I am back. Ready to kick. Ready to work. There is nothing wrong,” Tinubu said.
He added that rumours were part of politics, while maintaining that he had returned in good health and was prepared to resume his duties.
Tinubu departed Nigeria on August 30 for a working vacation in Europe. He spent about a week in London before travelling to Paris.
The Presidency announced on September 21 that the vacation had been extended by a few days, saying the President remained in contact with officials in Nigeria and continued directing government affairs while abroad.
His extended stay subsequently generated public discussion about his absence and health, prompting the Presidency to state that he was “hale and hearty.”
Tinubu returned to Lagos on Tuesday, September 29, ahead of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1.
He is expected to participate in Independence activities in Lagos, including the premiere of a production honouring the late Chief MKO Abiola, before subsequently returning to Abuja.
