The Diaspora arm of the National Youth Council of Nigeria has enacted its 2026 Constitution as part of efforts to strengthen its structure, global engagement.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Diaspora President, Collins Idahosa, described the development as a landmark step towards reinforcing the council’s position as the statutory mouthpiece and coordinating body for Nigerian youth organizations worldwide.

He explained that the newly adopted constitutional framework establishes four specialized organs to enhance transparency, accountability and global reach.

According to him, these include the Diaspora Youth Congress as the primary decision making body, the Diaspora Board of Trustees to serve as the internal conscience and legal supervisor, the Diaspora Advisory Council to provide expert mentorship and policy oversight, and the Diaspora Executive Council.

Idahosa said the council remains committed to empowering Nigerian youths in the diaspora towards global impact, national pride and individual excellence.

He also announced that August 22, 2026 has been designated as Nigeria Diaspora Youth Day and will be marked in London, United Kingdom.

The event will coincide with the NYCN 62nd Anniversary Symposium and is expected to bring together young professionals and key stakeholders to deliberate on youth empowerment and cultural identity under the theme Build the Youth Build the Nation.

The Diaspora President urged Nigerians living abroad to actively participate in the council’s programmes and discussions, noting that the body would continue to advocate for the rights, inclusion and integration of Nigerians in the diaspora.
