The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that Rivers State has every reason to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing federal appointments and development initiatives enjoyed by the state under the current administration.

Wike made the remarks on Saturday in Port Harcourt during a luncheon organised by the Rainbow Coalition in honour of aspirants contesting the 2027 governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly elections in Rivers State.

According to the former Rivers State governor, residents should compare the level of federal recognition and opportunities received under President Tinubu with those received under previous administrations.

He argued that the state had benefited significantly within less than three years of the current administration through appointments and government interventions.

“Since 2023, look at how much Rivers State has gained from this administration compared to what it received from past governments,” Wike stated. “President Tinubu has shown great appreciation for the people of Rivers. We have to continue supporting him.”

The FCT minister also cautioned against allowing ethnic or sectional considerations to shape political decisions, insisting that governance and developmental outcomes should remain the priority for voters.

Wike encouraged political actors aligned with his camp to intensify engagement at the grassroots level, stressing that elections are determined by activities at polling units rather than media visibility.

“Television will not give you votes. To get votes, you need to go to your polling units, which are in your wards and local governments,” he said.

Speaking on internal party dynamics and coalition politics, Wike expressed confidence in the strength of the Rainbow Coalition and urged estranged political actors to return for reconciliation and collective participation.

He further warned against attempts to destabilise Rivers State, insisting that the state’s interests must be protected while calling for unity among political stakeholders.

Wike maintained that leadership should be assessed based on competence, performance, and commitment to public service rather than ethnic or religious affiliations.
