A nine-year-old pupil from Offa, Kwara State, Charlotte Muritala, is attracting attention for using social media to teach mathematics to other children.
Charlotte, a JSS2 student, developed an interest in mathematics at about the age of five and has since transformed her passion for numbers into online lessons shared on TikTok.
Using a whiteboard, marker and smartphone, she explains mathematical concepts such as algebra, fractions and lowest common multiples, often breaking down difficult questions into simple, step-by-step solutions.

Speaking during an interview with Channels Television on Monday, Charlotte said her fascination with numbers was responsible for her love of mathematics.
“I started liking maths when I was small. I love mathematics because I enjoy numbers,” she said.

Charlotte said she does not allow difficult questions to discourage her. Instead, she breaks them into smaller parts and tackles them one step at a time.
She explained that when she encounters a challenging problem, she looks for alternative methods until she finds the approach that works.
“Mathematics is fun for me. Some questions are hard, but I like solving them,” she said.
Charlotte’s interest in mathematics has also extended to social media, where her mother created a platform to enable her to share her knowledge with other young learners.

Charlotte said she was excited and proud to have the opportunity to help other children understand mathematics.
“My mum created another platform for me to share what I know with other children. I feel very happy and proud of myself,” she said.
Her father described Charlotte as a child who spends considerable time reading and practising mathematics.
“She’s always with mathematics. Every time, she’s always learning, reading every time,” he said.
He, however, noted that Charlotte still enjoys playing like other children her age.
“She’s a child, and she’s still nine years old. Sometimes she plays, but when it comes to reading, she doesn’t joke with it,” he added.

Charlotte’s mathematics teacher described her as an outstanding pupil with a strong passion for solving mathematical problems.
According to the teacher, her enthusiasm for the subject and willingness to tackle challenging questions distinguish her from many of her peers.
The teacher also called for greater investment in children with exceptional academic abilities through qualified teachers, scholarships and adequate funding.
“If you want students to have interest in mathematics, secure the services of qualified teachers, give them scholarships and proper funding,” the teacher said.
Although Charlotte has earned attention online for her ability to explain mathematical concepts, descriptions of her as a “maths genius” remain informal media or social-media labels rather than the result of a formal assessment of her intellectual abilities.

For children struggling with mathematics, Charlotte has a simple message: practise consistently, learn from mistakes and refuse to give up.
“My advice to them is to never give up. They should keep practising every day and not be afraid of mistakes,” she said.
