Thirteen passengers reportedly sustained injuries on Friday after a commercial Mazda bus overturned and crashed into a concrete barrier along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The accident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. on the Lagos-bound section of the expressway in Remo North Local Government Area.

According to an accident report attributed to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the vehicle was carrying 18 occupants when the incident occurred.

The agency’s spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, reportedly said the crash involved a Mazda bus with registration number AKD 52 XY.

Preliminary accounts indicated that one of the vehicle’s tyres burst while it was moving, causing the driver to lose control.

The bus subsequently overturned and struck a concrete barrier, which reportedly prevented it from plunging into a nearby ditch.

The injured passengers comprised two men, eight women and three children. No fatalities were reported.

According to the account, emergency responders transported the victims to three medical facilities for treatment.

Nine injured passengers were taken to Divine Hospital, Ogere, three to Isara General Hospital, while one was taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.

The accident earlier attracted public attention after Nollywood actor Kunle Afod shared a video expressing concern about the response time of emergency services.

Afod, who reportedly encountered the accident scene while travelling along the expressway, said several injured passengers were awaiting assistance.

He appealed to the Ogun State Government, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other emergency agencies to intervene.

However, the TRACE account indicated that personnel of the agency and the FRSC participated in rescue operations.

The report did not establish the precise time emergency responders arrived, leaving the actor’s concerns about the initial response unresolved.

It also stated that some injured passengers were subsequently discharged after receiving medical attention.

The damaged vehicle was reportedly evacuated to a TRACE holding facility for further investigation.

Traffic officials maintained that rescue operations were conducted without significant disruption to vehicular movement along the expressway.

The incident highlights the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, particularly tyre inspections, and timely emergency response on major highways.

Authorities are expected to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash as investigations continue.
