The immediate past Commissioner for Works and Housing in Borno State, Engr. Mustapha Gubio, has officially obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship nomination form ahead of the next governorship election in the state.

Gubio, who recently resigned from the state executive council, was seen in a widely circulated photograph presenting the nomination form to Governor Babagana Zulum in Maiduguri. The meeting also had in attendance the Senator representing Borno North, Tahir Monguno.

The development was confirmed in a brief post by the governor’s spokesperson, Dauda Illiya, who wrote: “Zulum Receives Borno APC Guber Aspirant, Engr. Mustapha Gubio.”

Gubio becomes the first known aspirant to publicly obtain the APC governorship nomination form in Borno State.

Until his resignation, he served as Commissioner for Works and Housing, overseeing key infrastructure projects across the state.

His political move comes shortly after Governor Zulum approved the dissolution of the State Executive Council, directing all commissioners to hand over to permanent secretaries as part of arrangements to allow cabinet members interested in elective positions to prepare for the 2027 elections.

According to the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani, the decision was aimed at creating an enabling environment for political participation among members of the outgoing cabinet.

“Governor Zulum has directed all commissioners to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to permanent secretaries on or before Friday, April 3, 2026,” the statement said.
