The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has distanced itself from reports circulating on social media alleging that the party is conducting State House of Assembly primaries in the state.

In a press release issued on Friday by Comrade Unwana Assam, a state officer of the party, the PDP described the reports as “false, misleading and mischievous,” urging members and the public to disregard the information.

According to the statement, the faction of the PDP led nationally by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, and in Akwa Ibom State by Barrister Igwat Umoren, said no primaries were scheduled to hold for State House of Assembly positions.

“The uncompromised Peoples Democratic Party… is not conducting any State House of Assembly primaries today,” the statement said.

The party alleged that the activities being presented as PDP primaries were linked to “APC-led arrangements” allegedly coordinated by former PDP state chairman, Aniekan Akpan.

The statement also referenced the emergence of Apostle Nsikanabasi Ese with a nomination form for the Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency seat, describing it as a “placeholder arrangement” intended to advance the ambition of the current lawmaker representing the constituency.

The PDP faction maintained that the process did not reflect the democratic wishes of the party
