Federal workers have renewed their demand for the immediate implementation of the 40 per cent peculiar allowance, payment of its accumulated four months’ arrears from May to August 2026, and the settlement of all outstanding promotion arrears owed to workers.
The workers expressed frustration over the continued delay in implementing the allowance despite earlier assurances that the payment would take effect from May 2026.
According to the workers, the government should not only commence payment of the 40 per cent peculiar allowance but also clear the arrears that have accumulated for May, June, July and August, insisting that workers are entitled to every month covered by the government’s commitment.
They also demanded the immediate payment of all outstanding promotion arrears, describing the prolonged delay as unfair to federal employees who have earned their promotions and are yet to receive the corresponding financial benefits.
The workers argued that continued withholding of the allowances and promotion arrears is putting additional financial pressure on federal employees at a time when the cost of living remains high.
They therefore called on the Federal Government to urgently honour its commitments by implementing the peculiar allowance, paying the four months’ arrears and clearing all outstanding promotion arrears without further delay.
The workers warned that failure to address the issues could further deepen frustration across the Federal Civil Service and trigger stronger resistance from affected employees.
They urged the government to demonstrate its commitment to workers’ welfare by matching its promises with immediate action, stressing that federal workers should not continue to wait indefinitely for entitlements that are already due.
