President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has emphasised the importance of unity, collaboration, and collective progress within the legal profession, describing them as essential ingredients for a stronger and more effective Bar.
Speaking during his visit to the Annual General Meeting of the NBA Ikorodu Branch, Osigwe said the gathering reaffirmed his belief that the strength of the Association lies not only in its numbers but in its ability to remain united in purpose, respectful in disagreement, and committed to the ideals that bind legal practitioners together.
The NBA President congratulated the leadership of the branch for the achievements recorded during its tenure and commended members for conducting a peaceful and successful branch election.

According to him, the spirit of unity, maturity, and camaraderie displayed by members of the branch is worthy of emulation and reflects the values that define the Nigerian Bar Association.
As preparations continue for the forthcoming NBA national elections, Osigwe urged members across the country to remain guided by the same principles of fairness, mutual respect, and sportsmanship.
“We all have a collective responsibility to project the Nigerian Bar Association positively and to ensure that our actions continue to strengthen the image, integrity, and unity of our profession,” he said.
He noted that the peaceful conduct of the Ikorodu Branch election demonstrates that the NBA’s national elections can also be conducted in an atmosphere of harmony and respect.
Osigwe also reflected on the state of the nation, describing Nigeria as being at a critical democratic moment where political activities increasingly shape national discourse. He observed that lawyers and the courts would inevitably be called upon to address legal questions and disputes arising from the political process.
He therefore urged members of the legal profession to remain steadfast in their commitment to the rule of law, the protection of democratic values, and the promotion of justice.

“At such a time, our profession must continue to serve as a stabilising force and a guardian of constitutional democracy,” he stated.
The NBA President expressed gratitude to members of the Ikorodu Branch for their warm reception, support, and commitment to the ideals of the Association, stressing the need for continued efforts toward building a Bar that is united, independent, courageous, and dedicated to the service of society.
