US President Donald Trump says American forces have carried out “large and powerful” strikes on Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said the attacks were in retaliation for an alleged Iranian attempt to lay sea mines in the strategic waterway, as well as an Iranian missile attack on a US military base in Jordan.
Iran has vowed to retaliate, warning that the United States will pay a heavy price for further attacks.
Iranian state media reported that US strikes hit several sites in Hormozgan province, including civilian facilities on Qeshm Island.
