Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued a kidnapped victim in Kaduna State and foiled a terrorist attack in Sokoto State as security operations intensify across the region.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the troops said the operations were conducted on August 20 and 21, 2026.

According to the statement, troops of Sector 1 responded to a distress call on August 20 following the abduction of a 43-year-old man around Awon Community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The troops reportedly pursued the attackers into surrounding bushes, forcing them to abandon the victim and flee.

The rescued man was subsequently reunited with his family.

In a separate operation on August 21, troops of Sector 2, working with local security personnel, responded to a terrorist attack on Kwaren Gamba Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The troops engaged the attackers and forced them to retreat.

During the subsequent pursuit, one terrorist was reportedly neutralised, while troops recovered two mobile phones, cash, an ATM card, recharge cards and other items from the scene.

The Joint Task Force said it would sustain ongoing operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of action and creating a safer environment for communities across the North-West.

The Theatre Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security forces with timely and credible information to support efforts to restore lasting peace and security in the region.
