Manchester City have agreed a deal with Chelsea for the transfer of midfielder Enzo Fernandez in a move reportedly worth £125 million, as Premier League clubs continue a busy final day of the summer transfer window.
The proposed Fernandez transfer is set to become one of the biggest deals in British football history, with the fee matching the joint-British record amount. The agreement is expected to be completed before the transfer deadline, subject to final procedures.
Fernandez, who joined Chelsea from Benfica in a British-record deal in 2023, has been a key figure for the London club and his potential move to Manchester City represents a major addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Meanwhile, several other transfers were completed as clubs rushed to finalise their squads before the window closure.
Newcastle United confirmed that German forward Nick Woltemade has joined Italian Serie A side Juventus on loan for the remainder of the 2026-27 season. The 24-year-old arrived at Newcastle in 2025 in a club-record £69 million deal and made 51 appearances, scoring 11 goals across competitions.
Everton striker Beto also completed a reported £14.6 million move to Fiorentina. The Portuguese forward joined Everton from Udinese in 2023 for £25.8 million and leaves the club after making 113 appearances, scoring 25 goals and providing three assists.
Liverpool remained active during the closing stages of the transfer window, completing the signing of 18-year-old goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Belgian side Genk in a deal that could rise to £30 million with add-ons. The young goalkeeper signed a six-year contract but will remain at Genk on loan before moving to Anfield.
The Reds had earlier strengthened their squad with the signing of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain in a reported £123 million deal, alongside additions including defender Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz.
Leeds United also reached an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for winger Jean-Matteo Bahoya. The deal is structured as an initial loan arrangement with an obligation to buy for £25.7 million, with paperwork being completed ahead of the deadline.
Coventry City defender Liam Kitching moved to Sheffield United on loan for the remainder of the season, while other clubs continued negotiations over final squad changes.
Everton were also working on several deals, including the expected arrival of Jack Grealish on loan from Manchester City, striker Folarin Balogun from AS Monaco in a reported £40 million move, and defender Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Lyon.
The Premier League and English Football League transfer window was scheduled to close at 23:00 BST, with clubs allowed to complete late deals if they submit required documentation before the deadline.
The final hours of the window saw several major clubs making last-minute moves as teams aimed to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season.
