Arsenal midfielder Ethan Nwaneri has completed a season-long loan move to German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund as the Premier League club seeks to provide the highly rated youngster with more opportunities for regular first-team football.

The 19-year-old midfielder will spend the 2026/27 campaign at Dortmund after finding competition for places at the Emirates Stadium limited. The agreement does not include a permanent transfer option, meaning Arsenal retain control of the player’s future beyond the loan spell.

Nwaneri’s move was finalised on transfer deadline day as Dortmund acted to strengthen their squad following the injury absence of midfielder Giannis Konstantelias. The Bundesliga club identified the Arsenal academy graduate as a suitable addition to their midfield options.

The England youth international joined Arsenal’s academy at a young age and made history in 2022 when he became the youngest player to appear in a Premier League match at 15 years, five months and 28 days.

Since making his senior debut, Nwaneri has continued his development with Arsenal’s first team and previously gained further experience during a loan spell at French club Olympique Marseille.

The temporary move to Germany is expected to give the midfielder increased playing time and exposure at a competitive European club as Arsenal continue to monitor his progress ahead of his return next summer.
