President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the rescue of 308 Nigerians abducted in separate attacks in Kwara and Niger states, describing the operation as a major success in the fight against insecurity.
The victims, comprising 163 persons abducted from Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and 145 from Niger State, were rescued from the Kainji Lake National Park Forest in New Bussa, Niger State.
According to a statement by the Presidency, the operation was carried out by the National Counter-Terrorism Centre in collaboration with the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force, making it the largest same-day rescue operation conducted by the joint security team.
President Tinubu commended the security agencies for their bravery, professionalism and effective inter-agency collaboration, saying the successful operation reflects the growing efficiency of the country’s security architecture.
The President also directed security agencies to strengthen early warning systems, improve community-based intelligence gathering and enhance rapid response capabilities to prevent future attacks.
The rescued victims are currently receiving medical attention at the Wawa Cantonment Medical Facility and will be reunited with their families after medical evaluation.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity, protecting lives and restoring lasting peace across the country.
