President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the conduct of the 2026 All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries nationwide as evidence of a deepening internal democracy within the ruling party.
Tinubu remarked on Saturday after participating in the APC presidential primaries held at Ikoyi-Obalende Ward L2 in Lagos State, where he also cast his vote.

The President, who arrived at the venue alongside the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, APC state chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Dr Jumoke Oduwole, former Finance Minister Wale Edun, and other party leaders.
He commended party members for what he described as an orderly, peaceful, and well-organised exercise across the country.
“This is a demonstration of internal democracy, and it has been going on very well according to plan. This is grassroots politics where every member of the party has the right to participate,” the President said.
Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the conduct of governors and party structures nationwide, noting that processes from ward congresses through local government congresses, accreditation, validation, and membership registration were properly followed.
According to him, the exercise reflects a high standard of democratic practice within the APC.
The President also praised electoral officials, party leaders, and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and credible process, urging Nigerians to continue supporting democratic institutions and national unity.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to good governance, democratic values, and policies aimed at improving the welfare of citizens while strengthening political stability across the country.
