The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reportedly granted a waiver to former President Goodluck Jonathan and cleared him to participate in the party’s presidential primary process ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development was disclosed on Tuesday in Abuja by former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, a member of the Tanimu Turaki-led PDP National Working Committee Presidential and Gubernatorial Screening Committee, following the conclusion of the screening exercise.

Jonathan’s clearance comes amid ongoing developments within the opposition party ahead of preparations for its presidential primary election.

Earlier, a PDP faction aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde had announced that the former president would undergo screening as one of the party’s presidential aspirants.

The announcement followed speculation surrounding Jonathan’s involvement in the race, especially after reports indicated that he did not appear to submit his nomination form on Monday as expected.

The waiver approval is expected to fuel further discussions within the party as political activities continue ahead of the primary process.

Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s President between 2010 and 2015, remains a notable figure in the country’s political landscape.
