President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Aina is expected to succeed Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second and final tenure as Registrar is scheduled to end on July 31, 2026.

The announcement was made in a statement by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who described Aina as an accomplished academic and technology expert with extensive experience in examination systems, digital infrastructure, and institutional reforms.

According to the statement, Aina possesses a strong academic and professional background in computer engineering and technology-driven systems management.

He reportedly earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent in the United Kingdom and later obtained a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

The statement also stated that he completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School as part of his executive leadership development.

Aina currently serves as a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

According to the statement, his connection with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service period, where he gained early exposure to national admissions processes and data-driven institutional operations.

The Presidency noted that those experiences have influenced his continued contributions to examination reforms and system optimisation initiatives.

The statement further highlighted his membership in several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
