Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to launch the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up, NFWP-SU, in Katsina State on Sunday, with 57,432 women targeted for financial and economic support.
The launch will include the flag-off of the Community Investment Fund, CIF, which is designed to expand economic opportunities for women in Daura and Funtua Local Government Areas.
Katsina State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajia Aisha Aminu Malumfashi, announced the programme during a press conference ahead of the launch.

She said the fund would provide direct financial support to 57,432 women, particularly those from poor and vulnerable households, as part of efforts to strengthen women’s economic participation.
Under the programme, beneficiaries will be organised into Women Affinity Groups, WAGs, through which they can build savings, access financial and non-financial services, strengthen their businesses and improve access to markets.
World Bank Senior Social Development Specialist and Task Team Leader for the Nigeria for Women Programme, Michael Ilesanmi, said the initiative was designed to include eligible women from different backgrounds, including persons with disabilities.
According to him, women aged 18 and above in participating communities are eligible to join the programme.

He said participation in the affinity groups would also help women build networks that could improve their access to financial, economic and civic opportunities.
The programme forms part of efforts to broaden women’s economic inclusion by providing beneficiaries with financial resources, business support and stronger links to markets.
Federal and Katsina State Government officials, development partners, women’s groups and other stakeholders are expected to attend Sunday’s launch.
