Russia has begun marketing its long-range Garpia-A1E loitering munition to foreign military customers, with officials confirming that unnamed countries have expressed interest in acquiring the system.
The drone, produced by Russia’s state defence manufacturer Almaz-Antey and promoted by the country’s arms export agency Rosoboronexport, has reportedly attracted international attention following a series of live demonstrations.
The Garpia-A1E is designed as a one-way attack drone, commonly referred to as a kamikaze or suicide drone, which flies to programmed coordinates before detonating upon reaching its target.
According to Russian officials, the unmanned system has a reported operational range of up to 1,000 kilometres, can carry a payload exceeding 50 kilograms and can remain airborne for more than six hours.
The aircraft measures about 3.4 metres in length, has a wingspan of approximately 3 metres and a takeoff weight of about 250 kilograms. It reportedly reaches speeds of up to 170 kilometres per hour and can operate at altitudes between 50 and 2,500 metres.
Rosoboronexport Director-General Alexander Mikheev described the Garpia-A1E as a unique system in the international market, claiming it is the only loitering munition currently available with a range capability of up to 1,000 kilometres.
Mikheev said the drone’s accuracy allows it to strike within about four metres of its intended impact point, adding that foreign buyers had shown interest after observing its performance during testing exercises.
Rosoboronexport said it is prepared to negotiate direct sales agreements and possible arrangements for local production in countries considered friendly to Moscow.
The manufacturer, Almaz-Antey, has expanded its production capacity, allowing it to meet potential foreign orders while maintaining existing commitments to Russia’s Ministry of Defence.
Loitering munitions have become increasingly significant in modern conflicts, with military analysts monitoring their growing use due to their ability to combine surveillance capabilities with precision strike operations.
No delivery timeline or confirmed list of potential buyers for the Garpia-A1E has been publicly disclosed.
