The Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board (RSPHCMB) has commenced a four-day commissioning tour of newly revitalised primary healthcare facilities across the state, as part of efforts to improve access to quality healthcare services at the grassroots level.
The exercise began on Monday in Rumuagholu, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, where the Executive Secretary of the Board, Chituru Adiele, said the second phase of the intervention was designed to address gaps identified during earlier facility assessment visits.
According to him, several of the centres had previously been found in deplorable condition, prompting urgent rehabilitation and upgrades aimed at restoring effective service delivery across communities.
Adiele announced that part of the tour would include the commissioning of a newly constructed Ante-Natal Care Block at the Model Primary Healthcare Centre in Rumuokwurusi, scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The facility, he noted, is expected to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services in the area.

He explained that the initiative is being supported through the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF), which is being deployed to ensure the sustainability and continuous maintenance of healthcare infrastructure across the state.
The BHCPF framework, he said, provides for routine maintenance, minor repairs, and essential operational needs such as bedding and other basic requirements to keep facilities functional and patient-friendly.
Adiele also urged residents to take full advantage of the revitalised centres, encouraging communities to participate actively in the ongoing free medical outreach programmes and other healthcare services being delivered.

He emphasised that improved healthcare delivery can only be effective when citizens consistently utilise available facilities, noting that government investments are aimed at ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare for all.
