Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has recorded another major milestone in the nation’s education sector after receiving two prestigious awards from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) at the 2026 Policy Meeting held in Abuja.
The university emerged as the top institution in Gender Balance Admission for the 2025/2026 academic session, earning a ₦25 million award from JAMB in recognition of its commitment to equitable admission practices.
AKSU also secured the position of Second Runner-up Institution in the Overall Category of the Mega National Tertiary Admissions Performance (NATAP) Merit Award, 6th Edition.

The awards were presented on Monday at the Body of Benchers Auditorium, Jabi, Abuja, during the annual JAMB Policy Meeting attended by key stakeholders in Nigeria’s education sector.
Receiving the awards on behalf of the institution, the Vice-Chancellor of AKSU, Prof. OtoAbasi Akpan, was honoured by the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Dr Suwaiba Said Ahmed, and the Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede.
Other dignitaries present at the presentation included the Director of Admissions, JAMB, Mr Mohammed Babajide Ahmed; the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Dr Olugbemisola Titilayomi Odusote; as well as other directors and senior officials of the examination body.

The event brought together vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, registrars and admission officers from tertiary institutions across the country, alongside representatives of the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).
The recognition is widely seen as a reflection of AKSU’s growing reputation in academic administration, inclusive admission policies and institutional excellence.
