Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have recovered suspected stolen goods and vandalised transformer cables during a late-night operation in the state.
The Police said the recovery followed credible intelligence received on May 12, 2026, at about 11:45 p.m., concerning a suspicious vehicle allegedly moving around under questionable circumstances.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, operatives were immediately deployed to the area following the report.

The statement said the occupants of the vehicle abandoned it and fled into nearby bushes upon sighting the approaching police patrol team.
Police operatives reportedly pursued the suspects, but they escaped due to the terrain and darkness of the area.
A search conducted on the abandoned vehicle, described as a dark green Ford bus with registration number SMK 438 XA Lagos, led to the recovery of several items suspected to be stolen.
Recovered items included 40 pieces of 25-litre containers of red oil believed to have been stolen from a shop, three coils of transformer copper wire suspected to have been vandalised from electricity transformers, as well as tools such as cutters and spanners allegedly used for vandalism operations.
The Police said preliminary investigations indicated that the items were stolen from different locations within the Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.
The owner of the red oil, identified simply as Mr Sunday, later arrived at the police station and identified the recovered products after reportedly trailing the suspects following a burglary incident at his shop.

The recovered exhibits have been taken into police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Command said investigations into the incident were continuing and reaffirmed its commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state.
