The Presidency has criticised former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his repeated claim that he won the 2023 presidential election, describing the position as unrealistic and driven by political ambition.
The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, in a statement on Thursday, accused Obi of refusing to accept the outcome of the election after the Supreme Court delivered its final judgment on the matter.
Dare said Obi was “fat on ambition but drunk on political arrogance,” while accusing him of remaining in what he described as a political fantasy over the election outcome.
“Mr Peter Obi wallows freely in a political fantasy land. To still insist he won the presidential election after the country’s highest court, the Supreme Court, delivered a final judgment is clear hallucination,” Dare said.
The presidential aide questioned Obi’s authority to determine whether he accepted or rejected the outcome of the election, arguing that only voters had the constitutional power to decide the winner through their ballots.
Dare added that Nigerians would have another opportunity to make their choice in the 2027 presidential election, expressing confidence that President Bola Tinubu would receive widespread support from voters.
Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party, has continued to maintain that he won the election, despite the declaration of Tinubu as winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the subsequent affirmation of the result by the Supreme Court.
