The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged to recommend Julius Adamu, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate in Bwari Area Council, to President Bola Tinubu for appointment as chairman of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB).
Wike announced this during an interactive meeting with political stakeholders and traditional rulers in Bwari on Thursday, October 22.
The development gained renewed attention on Monday after the minister’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, shared a video of his remarks on X.

Adamu had withdrawn from the February 2026 Bwari Area Council chairmanship contest to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Joshua Ishaku, following consultations involving Wike and political stakeholders.
Ishaku subsequently won the election with 18,466 votes across the council’s 10 wards, according to results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Speaking at the meeting, Wike described Adamu as a strong political contender whose decision to withdraw demonstrated cooperation within the political arrangement supporting President Tinubu.
The minister explained that he had not known Adamu personally before the election but became familiar with him during consultations over the chairmanship contest.
According to Wike, Adamu accepted his request to step down and support Ishaku in the interest of political cooperation ahead of the 2027 general election.
He also recalled speaking with Adamu’s father, who reportedly endorsed his son’s decision.
The proposed appointment followed an appeal by the APC women’s leader in Bwari, Deborah Ayorinde, who urged the minister to recognise Adamu’s withdrawal from the race.
Responding, Wike promised to forward Adamu’s name to the President for consideration.
He indicated that the former candidate would be recommended to lead the FCT’s basic education board.

The announcement was welcomed by several participants at the meeting, including Ishaku, who publicly expressed appreciation to the minister.
Wike also used the occasion to promote cooperation between APC and PDP stakeholders under the Rainbow Coalition, a political arrangement supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid.
He urged residents to assess the administration’s development initiatives when making political decisions ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, the proposed appointment has not been formally confirmed.
Adamu’s emergence as chairman of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board remains subject to presidential consideration and applicable appointment procedures.
