Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers and recovered ₦2.2 million believed to be ransom proceeds during a follow-up operation linked to the rescue of an abducted victim in the state.

The operation was carried out by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit as part of ongoing efforts to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes across Ogun State.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victim was abducted on June 11, 2026, in Ogbe Village. Following the incident, the command deployed intelligence and tactical teams to secure the victim’s release and track down those responsible.

The police said sustained surveillance, intelligence gathering and operational pressure on the suspected gang eventually led to the victim’s safe release on June 18 without injury.

Following the rescue, investigators intensified efforts to identify and apprehend members of the kidnapping syndicate.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives reportedly traced some of the suspects to a hideout within the state. Police said the suspects opened fire upon sighting the security team in an attempt to evade arrest.

A gun battle ensued, during which two of the suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded, while other members of the gang reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries.

Items recovered during the operation included a single-barrel firearm, an expended cartridge, a mobile phone and ₦2.2 million in cash, which investigators suspect may have been derived from criminal activities.

The police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and expand investigations into the activities of the gang and its possible network of collaborators.

Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for what he described as professionalism, bravery and operational efficiency in carrying out the mission.

He noted that the successful operation underscores the command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.

Ojajuni also reassured residents that the police would continue to deploy intelligence-led strategies and tactical operations aimed at safeguarding lives and property.

The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime and apprehending criminal elements.
