President Bola Tinubu has summoned about 76 leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State to Abuja as the party moves to resolve internal disagreements ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The closed-door meeting, held at the Presidential Villa, followed an intelligence report by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, indicating growing dissatisfaction among some APC leaders over alleged exclusion from the party’s affairs and campaign activities.
Sources who attended the meeting said the leaders allowed the opportunity to present their grievances directly to the President, particularly concerns over alleged dominance of the party by the IleriOluwa faction associated with former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
The APC leaders reportedly expressed fears that continued divisions could undermine the party’s chances of defeating the incumbent administration at the poll.
President Tinubu was said to have urged the leaders to put their differences aside and work collectively for the victory of the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.
The President reportedly reminded the leaders of the party’s losses in previous elections in the state, stressing that internal division could again cost the APC victory.
Tinubu was also quoted as assuring the leaders that there would be opportunities for members of the party at the federal level, urging them to unite and focus on winning the election.
The meeting was reportedly coordinated by APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, who mobilised the party leaders from across the state.
The Osun APC confirmed that the meeting took place but declined to disclose details, while other party sources described it as a productive engagement aimed at reconciling aggrieved members and strengthening the party ahead of Saturday’s election.
