The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a circulating statement claiming that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, had ordered the commencement of training for 50,000 newly recruited police constables, describing the document as fake and unauthorised.
The Force, in a statement issued on Friday, said the purported release was not issued by any department or official channel of the Nigeria Police Force, despite being designed with the Force’s letterhead and the name of the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.
The fake statement, which circulated widely on social media platforms including WhatsApp, was titled, “IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu Directs Commencement Of Training For 50,000 Newly Recruited Police Constables.”
The document falsely claimed that the Inspector-General had directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development to commence arrangements for the training of the recruits, with a focus on discipline, professionalism, integrity, human rights and effective policing.
It also alleged that successful candidates would begin checking the official police recruitment portal from September 14, 2026, for details on their training institutions and resumption dates.
However, the police authorities urged members of the public, especially recruitment applicants, to disregard the information and rely only on verified communication channels of the Nigeria Police Force.
In its disclaimer, the Force stated that the document “was false and was neither issued nor authorised by the Nigeria Police Force.”
The police further warned that individuals behind the creation and circulation of the fake statement would face legal action, adding that investigations had commenced to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The development comes amid growing concerns over the circulation of fraudulent recruitment messages targeting job seekers and members of the public through social media platforms.
The Nigeria Police Force advised citizens to verify recruitment-related information through its official platforms to avoid falling victim to misleading announcements.
