Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have reaffirmed their political alliance under the Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The two political leaders reiterated their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and the governorship candidacy of Kingsley Chinda of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the unveiling of coalition-backed candidates at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Addressing supporters at the gathering, Fubara called for an end to divisions within the political structure, urging members to work together in pursuit of the coalition’s electoral objectives.
He acknowledged Wike as the leader of the political family and appealed to supporters to respect the leadership arrangement in the interest of unity.
The governor described his participation in the gathering as a return to the political family that supported his emergence as governor in 2023.
He also expressed appreciation to Wike and other political stakeholders for their contributions to his political career.

Fubara maintained that continued disagreements over political loyalty should not undermine the coalition’s preparations for the forthcoming elections.
The development follows months of reconciliation efforts between the governor and Wike after a prolonged political dispute that divided the state’s political leadership.
Their disagreement, which began shortly after Fubara assumed office, triggered tensions involving the Rivers State House of Assembly and competing political interests.
In recent months, however, both leaders have participated in consultations aimed at rebuilding cooperation among their supporters.
Fubara had previously endorsed Tinubu’s second-term ambition and declared Chinda his preferred successor in Rivers State.
Wike has also maintained that the Rainbow Coalition, which brings together politicians from different parties, would support agreed candidates across elective positions.
The coalition’s activities have included meetings with political stakeholders, consultations across local government areas and preparations for grassroots mobilisation.

At Tuesday’s gathering, Fubara expressed confidence in the coalition’s electoral preparations and urged members to put collective political objectives ahead of personal disagreements.
The event represented another public demonstration of cooperation between the governor and the FCT minister following their earlier political differences.
Their renewed alliance is expected to shape political alignments in Rivers State as parties and candidates prepare for the 2027 general elections.
