The Nigeria Police Force has concluded security deployments and operational arrangements for the Ekiti State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, assuring residents of adequate protection before, during and after the exercise.

The Force said the deployment covers all 2,545 polling units across the state, as well as critical infrastructure, border communities, major entry and exit routes, and other strategic locations.

Providing an update on the Force’s readiness, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, CP Shogule Abayomi, disclosed that a multi-layered security architecture had been put in place to guarantee a peaceful, credible and hitch-free election.

According to him, security personnel and operational assets have been strategically positioned across polling units and other identified locations to ensure the safety of voters, electoral officials, observers and election materials throughout the electoral process.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, assured the public that all officers deployed for election duties had been adequately briefed on their responsibilities and rules of engagement.

He said the personnel would carry out their duties professionally, impartially and in line with the provisions of the law.

The Police warned that electoral offences and any actions capable of undermining the integrity of the electoral process would be met with appropriate sanctions in accordance with the Electoral Act and other relevant laws.

Citizens were therefore urged to remain law-abiding and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the election period.

To facilitate rapid response to security incidents, the Force announced the activation of a dedicated election emergency line, +23480062335577, which will remain operational throughout the exercise.

The Police encouraged members of the public to promptly report any security concerns through the emergency line for timely intervention.

Eligible voters were also urged to come out and exercise their constitutional rights without fear or intimidation, while being cautioned against spreading unverified information capable of causing panic or disrupting public order.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring a free, fair, credible and peaceful governorship election in Ekiti State.
