Oyo State House of Assembly has ruled out negotiations with kidnappers responsible for the abduction of teachers and students in Oriire Local Government Area, insisting that government efforts should focus on securing the victims’ release through intensified security operations.

The lawmakers made their position known during plenary, where they called for stronger measures to address insecurity and protect schools and communities from future attacks.

The Assembly urged security agencies to intensify rescue operations, strengthen intelligence gathering, and enhance surveillance in vulnerable areas to ensure the safe return of all abducted victims.

Lawmakers also recommended the establishment of a permanent military base in the affected area, comprehensive security audits of schools considered vulnerable to attacks, and increased support for local security outfits involved in community protection.

In addition, the House renewed calls for accelerated action on state policing as part of broader efforts to improve security across Oyo State.

Speaking on the issue, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, warned that negotiating with kidnappers could embolden criminal groups and encourage further abductions.

“Negotiating with kidnappers could encourage more attacks. Our focus should remain on rescue operations, intelligence gathering, and strengthening security across the state,” the Speaker said.

The resolution comes amid growing concern over the abduction of teachers and students in Oriire Local Government Area, a development that has sparked nationwide calls for improved security around schools and stronger action against kidnapping and banditry.

The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to supporting measures aimed at safeguarding lives, protecting educational institutions, and restoring public confidence in the state’s security architecture.
