Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and businessman Aliko Dangote contacted him during the Osun State governorship election and asked him to delete his social media posts about the poll.
Davido made the claim during an interview with News Central TV on Tuesday while discussing his involvement in monitoring the August 15 election, which was won by his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
According to the singer, he received pressure to remove posts published on X, formerly Twitter, where he was sharing information about polling-unit results and alleged irregularities.
“They were calling me to delete. I said sorry o… I can’t delete anything.”
Davido claimed that Akpabio was among those who attempted to reach him and said Dangote also called him personally.
“Uncle Aliko called me too. I said, ‘Uncle, I’m not deleting until the INEC announcement.’”

Davido also alleged that more than ₦110 billion in cash was brought into Osun State in an attempt to influence the election.
He said his information came from an insider who was monitoring developments on the ground.
“If you see the cash these people brought in. If they had gotten away with that election, Nigeria is finished.”
The singer argued that his family’s campaign did not rely on financial inducements on election day.
“We didn’t spend a dime on election day.”
He credited Osun voters with resisting alleged attempts to interfere with the ballot process, saying some residents confronted individuals allegedly attempting to seize ballot materials.
Davido said Adeleke’s victory demonstrated that popular support could overcome financial and political influence.

He urged other governors to learn from the result, saying:
“When you stand by the people, the people will stand by you.”
Davido’s involvement in the election was also influenced by his family’s long-standing political connections in Osun. His late uncle, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, was the state’s first civilian governor, while Ademola Adeleke is the incumbent governor.
The allegations made by Davido regarding calls from Akpabio and Dangote, as well as the claimed ₦110 billion expenditure, are claims attributed to him in the interview and would require independent verification.
