The Director of Energy Security in the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Goodluck Ebelo, has commended the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, for his leadership in protecting critical national infrastructure in the Niger Delta and across the country.
Ebelo gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Headquarters of the 6 Division Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of New Guard Security Services Limited.
Speaking during the visit, the ONSA Energy Security Director noted that Nigeria’s crude oil production has witnessed significant growth over the past two years, contributing to increased government revenue.

RISMADARVOICE gathered that he attributed the improvement largely to the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, particularly the Nigerian Army, in securing vital national assets and combating crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and other forms of economic sabotage.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Umar Adams, Ebelo praised the military’s sustained efforts in safeguarding the nation’s oil and gas infrastructure, describing their role as critical to Nigeria’s economic stability and energy security.
Responding, Major General Emekah congratulated Ebelo on his appointment as Director of Energy Security and reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army to protecting critical national assets from criminal elements.
The GOC stressed that the Army remains determined to prevent saboteurs from undermining the country’s economic interests and assured the delegation that the 6 Division would continue to intensify operations aimed at securing oil facilities and supporting broader security initiatives in the Niger Delta region.

He, however, identified the failure of some oil companies to fully implement the terms of their Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with host communities as one of the major challenges affecting security in the region. According to him, unresolved community grievances often create conditions that can undermine efforts to protect critical infrastructure.
Major General Emekah emphasised the need for stronger collaboration among security agencies, oil companies, and host communities to ensure lasting peace, protect national assets, and sustain gains recorded in crude oil production.
