The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has called for a thorough investigation into an alleged attack on its campaign convoy in Ososa, Odogbolu Local Government Area.
The party said the incident occurred on Wednesday during its campaign activities in Ogun East, and urged the Nigeria Police Force to establish what happened and identify those responsible.
Speaking with journalists in Abeokuta on Thursday, the state PDP chairman, Abayomi Tella, appealed to Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu to deploy a special investigation team to the state.
Tella alleged that the convoy, which had travelled through parts of the state before heading towards Odogbolu, came under attack in Ososa.
According to him, the last vehicles in the convoy were allegedly targeted with gunshots, stones and other objects. He claimed that some vehicles were damaged and some party members sustained injuries.
The PDP chairman also alleged that one of the vehicles belonging to the party’s candidate, identified as Hon. Agbolade, had a mark on its alloy wheel which he said was consistent with a gunshot after the vehicle’s tyre was deflated.
Tella said photographs and videos of the damaged vehicles were available and urged the police to determine the type of firearm allegedly used.
“We want the police to thoroughly investigate what transpired and establish the type of gun used,” he said.
He further claimed that the incident had been reported at the Idowa Police Division and Igbeba Area Command.
However, Tella expressed concern over the alleged arrest of some PDP members whom he described as victims of the incident. He claimed that between five and six party members remained in police custody, while others were being sought.
He urged the police to investigate the matter impartially and ensure that those responsible were identified based on evidence.
Dispute over campaign venue
Tella also alleged that the PDP was prevented from using a venue in Idowa for its Ogun East campaign flag-off despite obtaining approval and paying N170,000 for its use.
He said party officials had obtained approval from a community representative and paid the required amount into the designated community account.
According to him, the party was informed only hours before the event that it could no longer use the venue, forcing the campaign to relocate to Odogbolu.
Tella said the campaign convoy subsequently moved through Ijebu-Ode and other areas before heading towards Idowa and Ososa.
He alleged that the convoy encountered resistance in Idowa, where some individuals reportedly claimed they had instructions from a traditional ruler to prevent the vehicles from passing.
The PDP chairman said the party eventually proceeded after discussions and appeals.
The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State has also called for a police investigation into the Ososa incident, but presented a different account of what happened.
The APC, through its state publicity secretary, Olufemi Nuberu, alleged that the reported shooting involved security personnel attached to PDP governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu.

The APC said Adebutu’s convoy was returning from Ijebu-Ode when the alleged shooting occurred in Ososa, which is the hometown of the party’s deputy governorship candidate.
The party described the alleged discharge of firearms in a populated area as a matter requiring investigation and called on political parties and their supporters to avoid actions capable of creating tension.
The PDP has disputed that account, maintaining that its convoy was confronted by people it described as hoodlums and that the security personnel attached to the candidate acted in response to the situation.
The competing accounts have not been independently established, making the proposed police investigation important in determining what occurred, who was responsible and whether any laws were violated.
Tella, meanwhile, said the PDP would continue to participate in political activities peacefully and urged security agencies to provide a safe environment for all political parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We will remain committed to peaceful political participation,” he said, while calling on the authorities to protect the rights of political parties to campaign across the state.
