The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has warned motorists and members of the public against fraudulent text messages and malicious links claiming that recipients have committed traffic offences.
The ministry said the messages were part of scams aimed at deceiving motorists into surrendering sensitive personal and banking information.
In an advisory posted on its X handle on Friday, the ministry urged motorists not to click on unverified links, disclose personal details or make payments through third-party platforms.
It explained that the fraudulent messages and websites could be designed to look like legitimate channels for resolving traffic violations, while their actual purpose was to obtain confidential information from unsuspecting victims.
The ministry also cautioned motorists against websites and platforms offering purported discounts on traffic penalties.
According to the advisory, Lagos State does not offer discounts on traffic penalties through any of its platforms, as all statutory fines are fixed.
Motorists were advised to verify traffic tickets and check their vehicle status only through government-approved platforms.
The ministry identified payvis.ng and tms.lagosstate.gov.ng as the official platforms for accessing the relevant traffic services.
It further urged members of the public to treat unsolicited messages about traffic violations with caution and avoid making payments or providing personal and banking details through suspicious links.
The warning follows concerns over the increasing use of fake traffic notices and payment requests to target motorists through fraudulent online platforms.
