The Chairman of Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Masud Aliyu Umar, has died in a road accident while returning from a political stakeholders’ meeting in Bauchi.
Umar reportedly lost his life on Sunday evening, November 1, when his private vehicle crashed around Konkiyal Village in Darazo Local Government Area, along the Bauchi–Maiduguri Federal Highway.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. as the council chairman travelled back to Zaki after attending a meeting of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The gathering was reportedly presided over by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who also serves as the party’s national leader.
Umar’s death came less than three months after his election as chairman of Zaki Local Government Area on August 17, 2026.
Before assuming office, he served as Director-General of the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), where he was involved in disaster management, emergency response and humanitarian assistance.
Reacting to the development, Governor Mohammed expressed shock and sadness over the council chairman’s death.
In a condolence statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor described Umar as a dedicated public servant, committed grassroots politician and compassionate leader.
Mohammed said the deceased made significant contributions to public service, particularly through efforts to assist vulnerable communities affected by emergencies and humanitarian challenges.
He also commended Umar’s leadership during his brief tenure as council chairman, citing initiatives aimed at youth and women empowerment, improved livelihoods and grassroots development.
The governor described the death as a major loss to the deceased’s family, the people of Zaki Local Government Area and Bauchi State.

He extended condolences to the family, the Katagum Emirate Council, the Bauchi State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, political associates and other mourners.
Mohammed urged those affected by the loss to find strength and comfort in their faith during the difficult period.
He also prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and mercy upon the deceased.
Funeral prayers were scheduled for Monday, November 2, at 2 p.m. at the Palace of the District Head in Mur Mur, Zaki Local Government Area.
The circumstances surrounding the crash, including its immediate cause, had not been publicly established in the reports reviewed.
