Former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was among spectators at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, on Sunday as Ikorodu City defeated Enugu Rangers 2-0 in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Obi was seen in the stands during the Matchday Six encounter alongside Ikorodu City president Sanmi Doherty as the Lagos-based club secured an important home victory over the defending NPFL champions.
Ikorodu City took an early lead through Aderemi Adeoye, whose free kick put the hosts ahead in the opening stages of the encounter.
The home side maintained their advantage into the second half before Emmanuel Ikechukwu doubled the lead in the 63rd minute to secure the 2-0 victory.
The result ended Rangers’ four-match unbeaten run and gave Ikorodu City their first victory over the Enugu side.
Sunday’s encounter also carried added significance after Rangers defeated Ikorodu City 2-1 at the same venue on the final day of the 2025/26 season to secure the NPFL title.
Obi’s attendance attracted attention from spectators and added a prominent public figure to the crowd at the Lagos stadium.
The former Anambra governor has attended major Nigerian football matches in the past, including the Super Eagles’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe in Uyo in March 2025.
His appearance on Sunday comes as political activities continue ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
