The Rivers State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has declared its support for the Rainbow Coalition led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, while insisting that the party must receive fair representation in the political arrangement.
The state chairman of the Labour Party, Fredrick Nwoje, disclosed the party’s position during a media parley in Port Harcourt.
Nwoje described the Rainbow Coalition as a political alliance bringing together stakeholders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party.

He said the arrangement was intended to encourage cooperation among political stakeholders from different parties and create opportunities for broader participation in governance.
The LP chairman also urged APC governors to support the coalition, which he said was working towards President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
According to him, disagreements surrounding the coalition should be resolved through dialogue rather than political confrontation.
Nwoje maintained that the Labour Party was a recognised stakeholder in the arrangement and should not be excluded from decisions concerning political opportunities and representation.
He assured party members, leaders and prospective candidates across the 23 local government areas of Rivers State that their interests would be protected.
“Our fair share, our rightful place and our due entitlements in this Rainbow Coalition will certainly get to us. Labour Party will not be shortchanged,” he said.
The chairman also expressed confidence in the party’s national leadership, naming National Chairman Nenadi Esther Usman and National Secretary Iheanacho Obioma as officials he said were involved in discussions concerning the coalition.

He maintained that the participation of Labour Party stakeholders would help ensure that the party’s interests were considered as political consultations continued.
Nwoje further called on Rivers residents, particularly young people and Labour Party members, to embrace political cooperation and peaceful engagement.
He argued that the coalition could provide a platform for reducing political disagreements and promoting development in Rivers State.
The declaration comes amid continuing discussions over the structure and political implications of the Rainbow Coalition, particularly its relationship with existing party structures and the interests of political stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Nwoje’s assurances reflect the position expressed by the Rivers State Labour Party leadership, while the precise terms of the party’s participation and allocation of political positions have not been publicly detailed.
