The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General O. O. Nafiu, has urged corps members to build strong networks, practice financial discipline, and take advantage of opportunities during their service year.
He gave the charge on Monday during an official visit to the Magaji Dan Yamusa NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Keffi, where he addressed the 2026 Batch A Stream II corps members.
Speaking in a warm and practical tone, Nafiu emphasised the long-term value of relationships formed during the orientation course, describing them as potential networks that could shape future careers and opportunities. He encouraged corps members to remain open-minded and adaptable, noting that the NYSC scheme is designed to prepare them for real-life challenges while fostering national unity.
“Nigeria belongs to all of us,” he said, urging participants to embrace a shared national identity and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
The NYSC boss also stressed the importance of service and responsibility, advising corps members to give back to society despite potential challenges. He highlighted prudent financial management, encouraging them to save from their monthly allowance and develop a culture of discipline.
On economic empowerment, Nafiu challenged corps members to think entrepreneurially by identifying business opportunities within their host communities. He urged them to develop side hustles and practical skills that could support them during and after the service year.
He further reminded them of their critical role in national assignments, including elections, and called for adequate preparation and a strong sense of duty.
The Director-General also encouraged responsible use of digital platforms to promote the NYSC positively, warning against distractions and unnecessary pressure. He advised corps members to remain focused and intentional about their post-camp plans.
During the visit, Nafiu commended outstanding staff for their dedication and recognised recently promoted personnel, reinforcing the need for excellence within the scheme.

In a gesture of goodwill, he donated two bulls for the corps members’ welfare and celebrated five corps members whose birthdays coincided with his visit. Selected corps members were also rewarded for exemplary conduct in camp.
The Director-General was accompanied by the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, and the Director of Special Duties, George Mfongang. The visit featured a tour of camp facilities and interactions with staff and partner agencies.
